The U.S. Office of Management and Budget’s Uniform Guidance took effect December 26, 2014 and revisions were published to the Federal Register on August 13, 2020. Amendements to Sec. 200.216 and 200.340 were effective on August 13, 2020, with the remainder of revisions to the guidance effective November 12, 2020. The initial Uniform Guidance consolidated eight OMB circulars into a single document and changed some fundamental concepts underlying the management of sponsored programs. The University of Kansas implements Uniform Guidance throughout the Research Administration and Fiscal Affairs functions of the KU Center for Research, and applies these guidelines to all sponsored funding, no matter if the source is federal or non-federal. It is important to note that Uniform Guidance’s use may vary in practice from agency to agency in the federal government.
