About HRPP

Previously called the Human Subjects Committee - Lawrence Campus (HSC-L), the Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) protects those who volunteer to be participants in research studies. HRPP includes the administrative office and the Institutional Review Board (IRB) that reviews projects with greater than minimal risk. If you plan to use human participants in your research, you are required to receive permission from the IRB before the project begins. Research institutions are required to have an IRB before they may receive federal funding for behavioral and biomedical research.
HRPP's primary mission is to protect research participants' rights and privacy. In addition, it protects investigators from legal and ethical missteps and safeguards them from the repercussions of such missteps.
Schedule and Deadlines for Board Meetings
Only more than minimal risk studies and studies that do not fit criteria for an expedited review are reviewed by the Full IRB at a Meeting. The deadlines only apply to those studies. Minimal risk studies can be submitted to the IRB at any time. For questions regarding the risk-level of a study contact the HRPP office.
